It seems like all the plans I made for my life when I was young have now been turned upside down...thank God! I grew up determined to be known by others; to have others see my family and I as perfect and happy. However, we all know the story: God had something much bigger in store for me.
At the age of fifteen, my eyes became open to not only the brokenness in my parents' lives, but also my own. My parents divorced and this truly wrecked me; it shattered any belief I had in a god who loves and takes care of his creation. Still through this time, the Lord pursued me through the working of His Church. The support and encouragement I received from the local church caused me to think more about this hope and joy they clearly displayed.
Through the church’s radical actions I came to seek after that same joy and hope. God began to restore me physically and mentally by taking me out of depression and bitterness. Then the Lord performed a greater healing! He began to heal my relationship with my parents as I started to forgive and trust them again. Apart from Christ, this reconciliation of heart, mind, and spirit would not have happened.
I went to college at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg to study education in hopes of ultimately becoming a special education teacher. I became quickly involved in CoMission, attending weekly events and getting connected into the broader community. Up to this point in my relationship with Christ, I did not know how to effectively and lovingly live a life as a disciple maker. I was shown how to serve the campus, be equipped by the gospel, and be sent out onto campus to make disciples. Through serving alongside CoMission for three years, God clearly laid out a path in college ministry that He asked me to be faithful and obedient too.
My vision for future ministry is constantly shifting as I continue to learn, develop, and practice the gifts that God has given to me. One thing that remains constant is my desire to teach others about the gospel and live intentionally alongside them in discipleship. God has always directed my life, through times of trial and times of contentment, so I know that God has a special place for me in His greater mission to restore the world.
